The Client & Challenge
The brief started as a simple LED lighting upgrade. During early works the client asked a more important question. How do we ensure no one enters the X-ray room while the equipment is live, and what happens if the warning light fails? The intent was clear. There needed to be a visible warning and a fail-safe so the X-ray could not operate without it. No one had posed that exact question before on this estate, so there was no ready-made solution to deploy.

Our Approach
Key Group developed a practical answer. We built a prototype in our warehouse and tested it thoroughly. The trial installation at Barnsley confirmed that the solution worked in a live environment. The design integrates the warning light with an interlock that inhibits the X-ray if the bulb fails. This gives a clear visual signal at the door and a safety backstop if the lamp is not operating. With the concept proven, the client instructed a national rollout.

The Results
The solution has been rolled out right across the Vets for Pets estate, establishing a consistent approach to X-ray room safety. Practices now have a clear door warning and a fail-safe that prevents operation if the lamp is not functioning. What began as small works became a practical safety standard that can be maintained across hundreds of locations.
